From Poly 40th Reunion – Class of 1966
Date: November 17, 2006

Tommy,

On behalf of the Class of ’66, I want to personally thank you for such an outstanding job performing at our 40th Reunion Bull Roast, this past Sunday, November 12, 2006, at the Parkville VFW. Everyone raved on how nostalgic it felt to step back and relive those good old days that were cherished at Poly and beyond, and especially to be reunited, once again, with one of Baltimore’s all time great entertainers. Tommy Vann and The Echoes set the standard for all bands to follow, and we were excited to have you perform for all of us once again. The highlight of the afternoon was the recognition of our many veterans and our Vietnam fallen, with flags waving, and your extraordinary singing of “Proud to be an American.” This was especially touching and professionally handled, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Once again, as I speak for everyone, thanks for a great afternoon, and thanks for all the great music you provided over the years.

Bill Schaffer

Tommy,

Bill Schaffer and many others generated an extraordinary spirit inside that hall, and you performance – and particularly that amazing song – was key to a successful reunion. Along with my classmates, and along with the current students, faculty and administrators at Poly who will benefit, I am profoundly grateful to all who pledged or donated to our Class Project. Tommy…For all that you did, you are an honorary member of our class!

Thank you,

Mike Berney ’66

TIME STOOD STILL for one weekend in the year 2011!!! It was just like yesterday that you guys played at Poly’s Victory Hop, Thanksgiving night 1965, on North Avenue and again during the Spring of 1966 during my senior year. It was also one of the last times that I saw Micky Reed perform. The group had such a unique harmony and sound that couldn’t be duplicated by any other band. You guys started it all. So many memories and good times at Hollywood Park (fake ID’s and all). Hutch didn’t care as long as you had the money. Tommy Vann and The Echoes was truly ahead of their time. And to see all of you on stage together again performing was something that I thought I wouldn’t see in my lifetime. Thanks for the memories. All of you stay healthy so we can do this again.
